I am curious as to people's opinions on the writers strike and more what they think about it than what is happening with it because my opinion is that they make enough money and the fact that there fighting for rights to make money off their internet rights makes me want to ask to be a TV writer so at least some television can get back on schedule.

I support the writers. It's not about money. It's about being paid fairly for the work they're doing. The internet is the future of television and they're not making a dime off that. And they should.
While I am bummed about not getting new shows, I stand behind the writers.

I don't have the numbers to back this up and could be wrong, but my understanding is that a pretty high percentage of Writers Guild members have fairly modest and insecure salaries.
And yeah, the AMPTP's current proposal for digital distribution (and DVD residuals really) is a joke. The writers would have had to fight for better (any) compensation at some point.
I only wonder if they would have been better served to wait until the next contract negotiation in three years to make their stand. They're losing a lot of money now when they're probably not going to get close to making up the difference, in the short term anyway, no matter when and how this is resolved. But maybe it's worth it to get it over with in the interest of fairness and peace of mind.

ITA, Wind Fish. There are very few Whedons and Abrams out there who make a good chunk of change from their writing. Most of the writers make a very modest living. I do agree as to whether now is the right time, but they've unfortunately gotten too deep into it now and can't back off. I suggest checking out www.fans4writers.com/
