Nyazian demons are sensitive change in reality. As the darkness of Quortoth presses in on this world, a side of Salome will emerge none have seen before. And it could mean death for her friends.

I liked this episode. I am a huge fan of the character of Illyria. I wished she would have stayed for more episodes.
The only thing I disliked about this episode was Illyria's first line at the end of the second act. The line, "Never send a man to do a God's job" didn't seem like something Illyria would say. I cannot picture it.
The Nyazian Fang back story was interesting and now that Illyria has been on that means three Gods this season (if you include Jasmine) and it makes me curious as to whether or not the Hellgod Grandae will ever show up (I can't remember what happened to her so I am not sure).
Dawn's blood explained a lot but I have to say who cares about her disappearance. Nice character but not one I cared on whether or not they lived or died.

Illyria may be gone for the moment, but that doesn't mean she won't come back.
Illyria's first line... Yeah, I'm probably stretching it a bit. But I liked the line. And hey, Illyria's been living in a human body for two years now. Maybe she's adapting.
As for Grandae, Magnimus said she killed her. Of course, that doesn't mean much in the Buffyverse.
Dawn's disappearance is important because... Well, who knows where she's gone, who she's with (and might use her to further the fissures to Quortoth) and can she be used to close the fissures.

Wow! Great episode! Connor's back-and-forth with Illyria about the implications of the actions they intend to take was very compelling and Salome being used as a conduit for communication between Connor and the inhabitants of Quortoth was a very interesting twist. I also liked how the Nyazian Fang played a central role in all of this and Illyria's appearance was also very well utilized. Salome decapitating and pretty much cutting Doc to pieces after cutting off his tongue was also entertaining. I wonder if it's the last we'll see of Doc... Salome dropping out of school was a bittersweet moment, but pretty much inevitable since as Salome said she was ambivalent about school anyway. As for Dawn's disappearance...pretty interesting cliffhanger. I wonder how that'll be resolved. I'd also love to see how the whole triumvirate of torment thing gets resolved as well.

The only thing I have on my computer that will play the commentaries is Real Player, and it only plays through the first six minutes. So until school is over and I get to my dad's computer at his house again, that is all I can listen to from them. As for those first six minutes, I have a comment, no a college teacher does not care if you arrive late (I am in college and have been for a few years I should know) because they figure it is your money you are wasting by not being there. Another thing I am curious about is why you dropped out. You don't have to answer this but I am curious as to if it is because you had to or because you wanted to.

Shame you can't listen to more.
Anyway, as for why I dropped out, I suffered from crippling depression and agoraphobia. I had panic attacks every time I went to school. I did some home schooling and alternative programs after that.

Well, Emcee, I'm in college doing a major in a subject that has little bearing on my future job(s) for personal enrichment so don't feel badly--if you do.
By the way, heard the commentary and again, I'm astounded at all that goes into the creation of TNP, esp. the mythology of the series. [And I guess you answered my question about Doc as well in your commentary.]

I don't feel badly at all. Frankly, I blame the shit education system for my dropping out. Not to sound full of myself, but I was a brilliant student. But I was a brilliant student who had emotional problems. The school didn't give a crap about me, because they were too caught up in their own bureaucratic bullshit to notice that I-- and probably a lot of other kids-- were falling through the cracks. The teachers went on strike TWICE my first year of high school. Every time I would start to feel okay about school, suddenly there wouldn't BE any school any longer. So I ended up just saying fuck it. And the school sure as hell didn't care that I wasn't going any longer.
Anyway, I don't feel bad about what happened, but I do get tetchy (hence the bile-filled damnation of the Ontario school system above) so... Other subjects.
I have put a great deal of work into the mythology of the series. There are some things that I come up with on the fly (like Illyria's connection with Salome only came up after... I believe Confluence, when were first saw the marks on Salome's face). But there are a lot of things I've laid groundwork for very early on. It's probably insanely obsessive, but it's important for me and I think it makes the story a lot richer.

I don't think illyria is all about herself, i do really think that she had a lot of affection for spike and possibly even love for wes
also, who the hell sang tainted love first?

While I think Illyria cares for Spike and Wes, I really do think she would turn on them if she thought it was advantageous to her.
"Tainted Love" was originally recorded by Gloria Jones. The most famous version was done by Soft Cell. The version used on the podcast was Marilyn Manson.

I don't actually think Illyria is the most powerful being to appear in the slayerverse, I've always thought that title should go to the beast. While it's true that the combination of Illyria's time slowing abilities and the beasts natural slowness means that the beast probably wouldn't be able to hit her, I don't think Illyria would actually be able to hurt the beast. I'd think that Illyria's diamond hard skin might actually be hurt just by punching the beast, not to meantion the whole plant talking thing, she'd be able to hear the plants burn to death when the beast touches them.

I think the Beast is probably than Illyria is right now (the Fred-inhabiting, Mutari Generator weakened Illyria). However, we've never REALLY seen Illyria. In her native form, I'd say Illyria is the most powerful creature in the Buffyverse.
