I was wondering, what do you all think about Buffy and Spike's weird, screwed-up relationship? Should they resume a physical relationship or are they doomed to crashing and burning if they do? I have my opinion but I prefer to wait and see what everyone else thinks.

I don't think it was screwed up.

I didn´t like the relationship all that much in season 5! I just didn´t work for me then. They changed Spike to much for me. They turned him into a puppy and that´s not who william the bloody was!! And in season 6, it wasn´t a real relationship so.... I think they should have approached it differently.
In season 7 things changed, it felt right. Although I have to agree with Spike in the end. I don´t think she loved him that way.
So I am not sure, it could go either way.

OK, so I inadvertantly gave part of my opinion away. Buffy and Spike did have a screwed up relationship...in Season 6, that is! In season 7, they definitely mellowed out, although they never(?) had sex again. And considering how their sexual life turned out, that's probably a good thing. There is the possibility of a (romantic) reunion between them far into the future since Buffy has a lot of maturing to do. Maybe if or when Spike shonshus and both he and Buffy survive the Apocalypse...I guess it could work out. Cause if Angel signed away his stake in the shonshu prophecy, it doesn't seem likely that Angel will be the one to Shonshu. But prophecies are tricky.

Why would Spike or Angel need to be shanshud? Personally I think Buffy liked that they both were different than normal like her. And the thing that sepparated Angel and Buffy was the perfect happiniss thing. So the only thing Angel would need is somekind of mojo to work around that. Altough I must say I wouldn´t mind Angel and Nina staying together!!

You're right about that, Anna; Buffy does seem to be attracted to mostly non-humans. I guess that's part of the reason why Buffy-Riley didn't work out. As for the Shonshu, I don't even know if it really matters anymore. Altough I must say I wouldn´t mind Angel and Nina staying together!! Neither would I!

In terms of TNP, Angel is the one who Shanshu'd. I've always held to the belief that Connor represents the Shanshu Prophecy. While Angel technically did not become human, he fathered a (mostly) human child. Connor is Angel's reward. As Angel said in NFA as long as Connor lives, they can't destroy him. I think that's what the Shanshu prophecy meant. Through Connor, Angel now has a human lineage.

Thank God for your answer, Emcee! At least now I no longer need to think about the Shanshu prophecy being mentioned again, especially considering how tricky it was. That way, the focus is solely on Connor and the Nyazian Scrolls and the enemies they're destined to face.

Forgot to mention...Buffy and Spike has the potential to work out, regardless of whether TNP is Buffyverse canon, simply because Angel's "moved on" to bigger and better things like Nina and his son, Connor. But there's a lot of emotional baggage from Buffy and Spike's previous sexual encounters so...like Anna said, it could go either way.

To continue on the subject of the Shanshu, there is still some confusion as to the "vampire with a soul" in question. Mainly because Spike- and also Drusilla- had the "stench of humanity" on them as the Judge put it. Angel, on the other hand, when he loses his soul and becomes Angelus has no capacity for humanity. Basically, what I'm driving at is Spike appears to have been a vampire with the capacity for humanity even before he earned his soul. (The fact that he earned his soul says that he was at least somewhat human before earning it.) So maybe it's possible that Spike could have been the rightful "vampire with a soul", especially if you define soul as the moral component of humans. On the other hand, when Angelus is cursed with a soul and becomes Angel, he has a son who is neither vampire nor human but who has the spark of humanity in him. The question is: who is the real vampire with a soul?

Why shouldn't they start it up again if "Chosen" is anything to go by. He loves her and she loves him. By their own admissions.

All I know is, if I were Buffy, I'd just give up on finding a stable relationship and never fall in love again.
Or, at the very least, hook up with Xander.
